I’ve been a bit busy the last week, which is why this mockup have been somewhat delayed. Among other things, I’ve moved to a new house, with lots and lots of weird things happening. Ghosts? Who knows…
Seriously, it’s time to crank up the pace a bit. I’ve tried the previous mockup design on numerous contacts, friends, and designers this past week, and there’s a consensus that it is good. So I’m moving onwards with it. That doesn’t mean that it is a final design, it’s still just a mockup, but this is the basic style we’ll be going with.
First Single Post Mockup
So with the front page somewhat specified, here’s the first front page mockup design. It is lacking comments at the moment, and I’m not happy with the box below the post either, it needs some flare and overall TLC. I haven’t touched the sidebar at all, see below.
Anyway, here’s the mockup.
Thoughts On The Sidebar
Today’s Devlounge is using the sidebar on single posts to promote the blogger with a short author bio, a picture, and for pushing for RSS signups. While I like the author bio box and all, I’m not a great fan of this, since it can confuse the users. If you’re used to find certain things in the sidebar, and it isn’t there on all pages, then the user might be disoriented. Not a big deal, perhaps, but still.
In short, I prefer to not alter too much in the sidebar. What are your thoughts on this? Looking forward to hearing them, and of course your thoughts on the mockup as well. As always, they’re much appreciated, so share!

not too sure of the bold red heading. what font are you using there?
I like the author box on right side,it ’s much professional look.But i don’t like the recent comments on front page or on sidebar..it makes the blog look avaerage(plenty of designs are centerd on it)while it give s the feel of community discussion but isn’t cool or profesional look(check smashing magazine they dnt have it).I like the top navigationbar it makes browsing easy,navabr on the right is also common in most wp themes.
Your current mockup design reminds me of newspaper page..nice design though..Your mockups are one step short of great new look for devlounge..just hang in there…make it more easy to browse(previous design were cool on DL) …

I really like the way the meta info is displayed at the top of the post.
Not too sure about the orange though…
Are you also planning to use Sifr for the subjects of your posts?
Do your ads really have to be images, can’t you use text links for advertising because I really think that it ruines the design but hey thats my opinion. For the rest, good mockup. My advise: do a lot of tests locally before launch to prevent child deceases.
can you add the pink, purple, blue colour you used in this current site theme to the theme to make it look colourful.
Looks good! My advice would be to go for a narrower text column though. It would really increase the legibility, which would be a #1 priority on a site like this with a lot of text. The wide column on todays site kind of annoys me.
