Designs of the Week

I find it difficult to read the text, I find it a bit too trendy with the wood background, bold colours, and big fonts, but there is something about the overall implementation of the design that I like.

This one is easy to praise with its beautiful colour scheme, strong graphic style, and […]

Designs of the Week
Clean designs are my favourite, and I think that todays list are especially nice. The last in the list, Omnitech is very “AJAX” heavy, which I am not a fan of, but both its dark and light incarnation are fairly beautiful to look at.
When creating a “simple” looking design, typography, element placements, […]

Typos Killing Your Code?
Thursday, April 17th, 2008 with 10 Comments »

One of the most frustrating things that programmers have to deal with is typos. If you forget something regarding syntax or accidentally misspell a variable name, your program can start doing weird and wonderful things or spitting out errors that are less than helpful.

A friend of mine Jonathan Snook recently wrote about this on his blog.

Designs of the Week
I had a harder time picking designs this week, and it isn’t because there weren’t any good ones, but none of them suited the style that I wanted to convey this week. I am on the hunt for simple designs, like the Club Joomla design I feature here today, that while simple, […]

Too Many OpenID Providers

One of the worries I had early on with OpenID as an authentication system was its decentralization, the key feature of the system. I still to this day, don’t understand how a system like OpenID could be considered secure enough to use as a membership system for various sites.

Designs of the Week
I had a hard time finding designs I enjoyed this week for the Friday Focus, but what is really strange about the two I present to you today is that I can’t put my finger on what I like about them. Usually I wouldn’t include either of these designs based on some […]

Perfect Pagination
Monday, March 17th, 2008 with 2 Comments »

I recently saw a post on Woork where they talked about the perfect pagination using CSS, and the first thing I noticed was that they were showing off what they label as the Digg-like structure that I use on most of my blogs.

I have always hated the previous, and next page links that most WordPress themes come with, as it doesn’t tell anything about which direction you will be going once you are off the front page.

Will previous bring me to where I was previous, or to even older posts? It has always been something that has annoyed me.

Designs of the Week
One of my biggest issues when doing a design is how I manage the content area. The header, and footer aren’t too difficult to do, but creating an effective content area just seems to be beyond my skills. I have two examples today of content areas that work well in their design, […]
