It would make sense if calling a function from a third-party plugin that might not be installed, but why when calling a WP API function? Does the WP api change so frequently that calling core functions need to be checked? Is there a boot-strap process that runs the code multiple times? Just confused about this seeming WP habit that I see everywhere. I've googled it & found nothing about why it's done. But use
