		<description>I really don&#039;t understand why I see so many WP developers sticking a &quot;function_exists&quot; call before calling functions.  It would make sense if calling a function from a third-party plugin that might not be installed, but why when calling a WP API function?  Does the WP api change so frequently that calling core functions need to be checked?  Is there a boot-strap process that runs the code multiple times?

Just confused about this seeming WP habit that I see everywhere.  I&#039;ve googled it &amp; found nothing about why it&#039;s done.

Thanks for the post - I was hoping there was a good way to add the JS without messing with the theme directly.</description>
