How to Use Joomla to Design Your Website
When choosing a CMS (content management system), it is best to use one that has good reviews and is widely utilized throughout the web design industry. Joomla is one such service and is particularly well known for being easy to learn for beginners. If you want to get to grips with Joomla for designing web pages, you should follow the process below and you will become an expert in no time!
Download Joomla
First, you need to install the program on your computer. You should make sure you are downloading the most up to date version of the program, as this will have additional benefits and features that are most likely not included in previous versions. You can access Joomla either by negotiating the ‘Control Panel’ of your web host or by downloading it directly from the Joomla website. This will also allow you to set up your chosen configuration and log in information.
Select a Template
Although Joomla comes fully equipped with a range of different template styles, one reason why programmers use the service is its adaptability. There are literally thousands of Joomla templates available online which come with the full HTML code necessary for coding. There is a wide mix of both free templates and ones you have to pay for, so think about whether a free design will be suitable for your needs.
Make Any Necessary Changes
One you have found a template, you can play around with the HTML code and change the appearance of the template as you see fit. Standard practice for web designers is to alter the header and the footer of the website in order to make their page stand out. To do this, access the ‘Template Manager’ area of your Joomla program. Making sure you have logged yourself in as an administrator, select ‘Edit HTML’ from the menu to start making your changes.
Create Your Content
You will now need to set up your template for you to make content. Whatever type of content you are going to add to your page, you will need both ‘Categories’ and also ‘Sections’. It is a good idea to leave the menu of your site until the end when you have created the content – once you know what is going to be on your page, you will have a better idea of how to create an easy navigable menu for visitors.
Continue Learning!
Joomla is a very intuitive program, but there is also a lot more that can be done with it once you have mastered the basics. The service comes with a number of extension lesson and additional classes to help you improve your coding abilities. A number of these extensions are also free, so there’s no excuse not to get stuck in!
