WordPress Automatic Update

One of the side projects I’ve been working on of late is helping Keith Dsouza automate a plugin to automatically upgrade your WordPress installations. The plugin is still young in development, but it provides a groovy one-click WP upgrade. I personally tested it on versions of WP as early as 1.5.2 and as late as 2.2.1. Give it a try and see if it works out for you. Who knows, it might make your job with clients easier when it comes to updating their installations.

Please visit the WLTC Plugin Competition Page and let Keith and I know what you think, and also check out the official plugin page.

Kick ass project. Props to you and Keith for putting this together. Now if only I didn’t modify the admin stylesheet and such, I’d be using it.

This is definitely one of the plugins I’m most interested in – once it’s mature, you should make a push to have it rolled into WordPress as a base feature. I know I’ve been slow to upgrade my WordPress install with each new release solely because it takes a little more effort than I’d like. I always do eventually move to the newest release, it just takes me a while and a feature like this would be amazing.

This plugin would be so incredible useful! It has been such a burden, upgrading all my WP sites. Almost every month lately. Even though I have only experienced problems once, still, upgrading is a lot of work.

I will check it out this weekend. In the meantime, I will start praying it works as seamlessly for me as it did for Darren. This would be huge in the WP world and definitely something to be included at a base level.

i tried using this plugin on an old wordpress install version 1.52 and I get the following error. Any ideas?

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: current_user_can() in /home/cbppfbi0/public_html/dcfpi/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade/wordpress-automatic-upgrade.php on line 626
