More Homepage Space?
Update: Everything will be staying as is - forget I said anything.
In an effort to conserve more homepage space and get more content to the visitor at first glance, how would you feel about removing the “Abstract and Motion” from the homepage? This is not to put away Fernando’s excellent illustrations (as they are used throughout the rest of the site), but simply to open up more homepage real estate to showcasing content. My thoughts are for something like this:
Header + Nav / 1 Top Post (the newest) / Ad + Subscribe Bar / Featured and or Recent Articles (3-6?) / Front Feed + Jobs + Interviews / Rest of page continues as is.
How would you change it so we get the most content coverage?

I wouldn’t change anything, design wise. To get more content across, I would consider changing the “1 Top Post/5 Other new posts” that is there now to
1 Top Post w/ Excerpt
another | another | another
The three below, split in to thirds matching the grid like setup you have with the content below could have shorter excerpts but would still draw the eye.

Good idea. I’ll work on it tomorrow.

You so can’t resist the urge to mess with the design can you?

What do you mean with “conserve more homepage space”? Enough space left, I would say. Infinitely more space, in fact. Long live the scroll bar!
No serious, why do you think that cramming more in a small space will help your visitors? That’s the microsoft way. Try to go the other way. Try removing stuff. Less is more.
The more you place in a smaller space, the less your visitor will see. Try a different approach. Start by removing the clutter of styles and simplifying things. Help your visitor by guiding them from the most important (last post), to the lesser important elements. If you guide them well, they will follow you, all the way down scrolling a long way, following links to more, etc.

Nevermind, I’m just gonna leave it alone.
