So Long TLA

So today made it official, we have finally left Text-link-ads. I got into somewhat of a dispute with the inventory manager after receiving another email (second one in the last 3 months) about ad’s not displaying right. I let them know straight up that ad’s have been displaying fine in the sidebar of each post/page since day one, and there’s never been any problems. The response I received was that clients expect the links to be found on the homepage. I would hope that most of our link advertisers had the knowledge to think about visiting the site themselves before purchasing ads, and we have never hid the fact that text ads appear on every page except the homepage. I’ve been looking for a way to get away from TLA lately anyways, and this was finally the “straw that broke the camels back” and will allow us to offer our own link ads at most more reasonable rates. I’ll be updating the advertising page shortly.

In other news, Ronalfy’s Feed-Styler plugin looks like it’s working great. I’ll be installing it shortly here on DL and he plans on releasing it towards the end of the week! Stay tuned.

I don’t blame you. I tried to sign up to the site three times. THREE TIMES and I couldn’t even get a confirmation email from them. I finally emailed them and the guy just repied back and said “you’re in now”. If they can’t even get a simple script to work, then that was the “straw that broke the camels back” for me. I never did sign up.

That’s disappointing — personally I haven’t ever had a problem with TLA, but it sounds like your experience was a disaster (as well as Shawn’s). It’s too bad, as TLA is a great idea, but the customer service obviously needs some attention.

I’ve heard support at TLA can be hit or miss. Never used them though. Thought I would suggest a better place if you decided to use anyone else..

    Linkworth.com

The support is always there, “you” price the ads on your site and rather than splitting 50/50 like TLA does, you make 70 percent.

Its always been a mystery why people use a place that takes half of their money. Especially if they’re not helpful.

Of course, if you can sell on your own, that’s always the best way to go. Good for you!

    Hi,
too bad you gave up with TLA.
    I’m that advertiser.
    What was the issue ?
Well, when i bought the ad, it was clearly specified that you allow the link on the homepage too.
I was not so skeptical to read every word of your advertising page to understand that you are not allowing the link on the homepage too since in TLA interface this was very clear that you do.
I think every webmaster knows the difference between a homepage link and a subpage link.
However, you have a nice website.
    Regards,
    Val

Yeah well, we can’t make everyone happy. Sorry you had to lose your advertising space, but you really weren’t loosing anything. TLA only offers publishers two choices: single page or site wide. If an ad is on over 500 pages, why should I select single page?

TLA is a great service as long as one has an established site. Tnx.net is another similar in way service. However, one should be careful when using such services because he risks having his site(s) penalized.
