Very informative review and response. The outside developer we used in updating our site located and installed WebEdit for us, but I've had to figure out a lot on my own.

I like the relative ease of login, file management and simple editing with WebEdit. I really do have a problem with browser restrictions - neither our Firefox or Safari support WYSIWIG editing. I don't even see the popup referred to above when I hit "edit" in those browsers, just HTML code. I have not tried Explorer on Mac yet, but I really don't want to download it just for this one purpose.

Mitchell Harper,

Thanks for the response. I figured that the ability to use the CMS without a database was crucial to run in alot of corporate (and Government) environments where Internet Explorer is prevalent. The only time the FF restriction is an issue is with restricted templates and copy/cut/paste (from the WYSIWYG).

#2 - That's good to know about the textbox. That's also good to know that you can disable the buttons.

Good luck on future versions. I'll keep an eye out for the next version. Take care.

Hi Ron, thanks for the review. Let me point out a few things:

1. The FireFox restriction is not implemented by DevEdit. This is the way FireFox implements security and that's the only way to get around it. Believe me, we tried. 90% of end users run Internet Explorer in a corporate environment so for most of our customers this isn't an issue.

2. The textbox you inserted was a "floating textbox" - that is, it's absolutely positioned so you can drag it anywhere. You can disable any and all of the buttons on the WYSIWYG editors toolbar on a per client basis.

I do agree that the code generated by the WYSIWYG editor needs work, and it's high on our list of priorities at the moment. We're currently working on the new version - WebEdit NX, which doesn't have the file manager to complicate users. Instead, it has a treeview structure representing the site and so far the feedback has been great for that :)

If anyone has any questions feel free to email me at mitch [AT] interspire [DOT] com - I'll be happy to help.
