Last week we celebrated 11/11/11; this Friday Focus we’re looking at inspiring moustache-themed designs in celebration of Movember or men’s health awareness month.

Happy October and Friday Focus! This week we’re looking at designs that incorporate illustrations you see in old books, which give a quirky yet nostalgic effect.

They’re a bit more abstract than sunbursts and are often used to break the horizontal and vertical lines that run throughout the design. Enjoy some subtle light streaks this week on Friday Focus.

This week on Friday Focus: it’s backgrounds with repeating patterns, a well-loved technique that doesn’t go out of style.

I’m seeing a lot of sites whose color palette consists almost exclusively of light grayish, brownish hues. Sounds boring? No such thing for a smart designer.

I’m doing something different this week on Friday Focus. I found one site with ten different styles on the same content (plus one homepage). Each one tries to match the visitor’s mood for the day. It’s also a good way to showcase one’s design repertoire. The designer also employs many interesting techniques into each style, so be sure to check all of them out!
