I haven't used Flock yet, but I've been reading a lot about it recently. It's hard to believe that Digg isn't included.

One way is the same way Firefox does: through Yahoo sponsoring the Flock team to use their search engine by default.

Regarding Flock, my thoughts are exactly the same as they were the first time Flock was released (beta) and created a huge buzz: it's pretty cool at first, but the similarities to Firefox eventually only serve to highlight the differences.

Although I realise they'd make no money from this, clearly everything Flock does could just be Firefox extensions. And indeed, absolutely none of it is really anything I genuinely need. At best, I was dazzled by the lovely interface for a while.

Then of course there's the issue of, because it's based on Firefox, it'll always be a step behind the latest Firefox development, security, and features.

How many of you Flock users really use all the features it comes with? Or do you just use it as a prettier Firefox? I know I did. :(

FireBug works just fine in Flock (most Firefox extensions do but only those that have been tested and verified to work are listed on the Flock website). You can simply install the extension from FireBug's site. I agree, it's a must-have add-on for developers.

Thanks for the reminder that I installed Flock a few months ago. I used it once or twice and then forgot all about it. This post has inspired me to dust it off and give it another spin!

I've been using flock now for about a month. A couple of points:
1. your firefox extensions mostly work (they just don't go out and test them all). I am posting this in flock with adblock plus, download status bar, and a bunch of other "unsupported" extensions. Works great!
2. I am lazy, the people sidebar means I can stay up to date with my network without having to open a tab or browse over to facebook
3. the media bar at the top is not as useful as I'd like
4. sometime the "you have new stuff" indicator gets it wrong :-(
Overall it's firefox with a few extra add-ons that I am enjoying using (the blog editor, web clippings, facebook, twitter, and flickr in my sidebar). Meebo works fine in a tab, so it becomes my social connection tool of choice.

My big question is why not just package this as firefox add-ons in the first place?

Flock is a cute toy, nothing more. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it was primarily used by "Social Web" users, who are most likely teenagers and young adults anyway (by young adults I mean those in the 18-23 age group)

Flock is just a repackaged, bulkier and unnecessary version of Firefox.

Switching browsers is hard. As a web developer, you need a whole bunch of 'em installed though, so you might as well use the one you like the most on a regular basis. :)
