Iceburgg

You’ve been waiting a while for a Wordpress winter template this good. You’ve sat around wondering, “will anyone ever make one?”. Then you came here - to the Wordpress theme wizards of Devlounge and discovered they had just the solution to your holiday theme blues.

Introducing Iceburgg.

Iceburgg - Teaser Screen

What Is Iceburgg?

Iceburgg is the newest theme to join the our free public release series, now containing a strong collection of three freely available, quality Wordpress themes.

See it now at Astereo and Wordpress Themes

Iceburgg - Winter 2006-2007

The idea for Iceburgg was propped up because of the lack “winter” themes I seemed to notice around the wordpress community. The winter themes I had seen always seemed to be focused on one particular holiday, for example Christmas, and were never just generalized for the winter season.

Like this theme? Please Digg It!

So then simply fooling around in Photoshop one day led to the creation of a header, which I used as the center piece to the design that was eventually turned into the theme we know call Iceburgg.

Features

Iceburgg is full of whites and blues, like winter itself. The theme has been crafted to meet our usual valid xhtml and css standards, and we’ve cleaned up the code as much as possible to make it the easiest we can for you to make your own edits and modifications.

Iceburgg - Straight Up Winter Theme

The theme itself is one column, splitting into three columns right before the footer with Categories, Search, and a customizable About section.

But why keep talking about it when you can look it over for yourself.

Download Now

You can grab Iceburgg for yourself simply by downloading the zip listed below and uploading it to your wordpress themes folder like every other theme. If all this technical mumbo-jumbo confuses you, have a look at the readme file included with the download for some step by step installation, customization tips, and links to various wordpress resources here at Devlounge.

Iceburgg has been setup on Wordpress.com and widgetized! You can select it from the presentation menu on your Wordpress.com hosted blog. Please leave feedback here, not on the WP.com post announcing the launch, because feedback helps us make our themes better.

    wow… amazing - a template that only works properly in Internet Explorer… WHY???

    I’m using Firefox 2 and Page 1 or Page Child they both get hidden by the dark blue hover. Oh my god people, how hard is it to get a link bunch of links styles right?

    A good practice (in fact what should be the only practice IMHO) is to TEST a page in at least IE, Firefox and Safari before you release it to the internet.

    (hmmm my grammar is up the creek in that last post - it should say “I’m using Firefox 2 and [when I hover over] Page 1 or Page Child”…)

    That was some odd FF error, I had forgot that child pages were, at the time, being included in the header nav. It’s not been fixed.

    On another note, we are aware of a few bugs I will have fixed as soon as I get out of school today. If you wish to wait til around 3 PM EST and come back to download, everything should be 100%. :)

    I love this theme! I’m planning on using it, however, I would like to have a version of it be 800×600 res friendly..

    I had sent you an email, but, I didn’t get a reply. Would this be possible, or..? If not, then I’ll just continue using what I have now, and try and finish up the theme I’ve been working on.

    Again, this is a very nice theme, and would love to use it! Thanks again for sharing it! ;) :)

    @spencerp - I’ll try to get one out in the next day or two. Most of the design / development community rarely uses 800×600 screen resolutions anymore which is why it’s a little tight on there now.

  • Post Time December 4, 2006 at 11:39 pm (permalink)

    @aj, if you could do that, that would be so awesome of you! :) Yeah, I understand about the “demand” of the masses, and theme building for the masses as well..

    I’d love to go up one setting for my screen res, but, everything just gets blurry sigh. And of course, with at the 800×600 res, I have that stupid lower scroll bar, which I hate. LOL!

    Again, I’d really like to thank you for taking the time to make this awesome theme, and also for going out of the way, and making one for the 800×600 res. :) ;)

    Doesnt work in IE6 : single post pages are left aligned instead of centered.

  • Post Time December 6, 2006 at 7:52 am (permalink)

    Found one little problem, not really a bug or error more just something of a hindrance.
    When posting icebergg doesn’t display WHO makes the post. For community blogspots this is essential really otherwise you end up playing the guessing game of who’s making the post.

    Honestly GREAT theme, fabbo really. Thought it was perfect when i found it for my own community blogspot but the lack of identifying postmaker is proving to be a real hinderance. This could just be me (i’m new to the world of wordpress) and my fairly ignorant ways when it comes to wordpress or an actual issue.

    But if this matter could be fixed/adjusted i know me personally, i would appreciate it mightily.

    But reagrdless, cheers for the great theme!

    @Ozh - I’ve never encountered that and I’ve tested it in IE6 & FF 1.5 / 2.0. If you’re going by the themes.wordpress.net test site, its kind of a bad example because of some of the stupid things they do. For example, one page on the test site shows comments requoted in blockquotes over and over many times. (Quotes of quotes of quotes and etc). It forces the design to break, but I’ve never seen anyone quote a quote so many times in an actual blog enviornment.

    @Zentiis - I’ll add that in shortly. Should be updated by tomorrow.

    Excellent theme!

    Very good for people who want to get inside on the “christmas spirit”.

  • Post Time December 7, 2006 at 4:10 pm (permalink)

    Just wondering, and I know it sucks to be pressured, but, just was wondering on how that 800×600 resolution version is coming along? =P

    Or, if you’re not planning on doing it anyway, can you please let me know? Also, if you’d like, I can zip up what I had done, and give you the download link for it? It might speed it up for you. Thanks. ;) :)

  • Post Time December 11, 2006 at 9:06 am (permalink)

    Okay, I’ve decided to share the 800×600 version with you once, but.. it’s going to need some tweaking though.

    The tweaking needs done for display “issues” in IE6.. Maybe you can fix that up quicker then I can? Well, hopefully lol. If anyone else wants to take a crack at it, feel free!

    Download here.

    Note: I commented out, two plugins that I’ll be using with it. The Get Recent Comments plugin, that works for WordPress 2.1 alpha3, and the Latest Forum Discussion plugin, for the bbPress forum to be integrated with the WordPress blog.

    As far as I know, it mostly ready.. But, maybe others can get this just right, quicker then I..?

    Killer theme. Any insight into why PodPress (podcasting) plug-in previews don’t work? There is a spacing/alignment problem around the preview image. See spacing issue at http://www.houseofbaldwin.com/category/abby/. Thanks for any help…anyone.

    @Brad - This is because the css has the image class set to center with a border around it. Look for the following in the css and remove it.

    img {
    border: 1px solid;
    margin: 0 auto;
    }

    It won’t be exactly like that, but it’s very similar.

    I love this theme and want to use it to carry me through winter. I’m having one problem though with the line spacing on my posts. I’m not sure where to edit to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Post Time April 17, 2007 at 8:18 pm (permalink)

    Find the line that starts #maincontent p - and remove the margin and padding lines just below.

    Great looking template btw! :)

    I like softness of the colors you chose but understand why you picked that red on top… It gives a really hard contrast to this charismas winter harmony. But very good contribution after all – thanks for this!
